Sushi Restaurant & Emergency Crisis Centre, NYC

Situated on the high line in Chelsea, NYC
As a humorous response to clashing conditions in New York City the programme of sushi restaurant and emergency crisis centre was founded, forming the relationship between meticulously prepared food and the total chaos and confusion created by massive power outage as seen in NYC in 2003.

Everything in this building is designed to have a double function.
The tatami mats of the restaurant can be used as emergency beds.
The Kitchens can be used as surgical operation rooms.
The bathrooms can be used as decontamination rooms.
The walls are constructed of canned food which can be broken down and consumed.

The building has a large tail which can unfold to form a very long shelter for people made homeless or stuck in the city. The tail expands along the disused track and folds back in when not in use.
